| Books
for Backpacks Program: |
| |
Disadvantaged
children whether by income, disability or homelessness often
do not have their own books or other resources
needed in school. Many cities across the country have back to school
backpack efforts for disadvantaged children programs; however,
most programs are small and under-funded. All programs welcome
donations of books and other materials, but the efforts are fragmented.
We are implementing a multi-city effort to provide thousands of
new books to homeless children for their return to school. These
books offer homeless children the chance to stay at the same
reading
level
of higher income families who have many books for their children
to read. Education is the key to making sure that the homeless
children of today are not the homeless adults of tomorrow.
The DreamDog Foundation plans to donate more than 15,000 new books
this year to backpack programs in major cities throughout the nation.
Efforts are focused towards New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Dallas,
Northern Virginia, Suburban Maryland, and Washington, DC. Over
the next few years we hope to expand the program to other major
cities
as our efforts are improved and partnerships incresed. Our
goal is to reach as many homeless children as possible and we are
always looking for new avenues by which we may reach them. If your
organization is running a backpack program, we would love to help.
Please contact us if you are interested in us providing books for
your organization. Or if you would like to support our efforts
and help donate books – click on “How
You Can Help.”
We only supply books that send a positive message to children and
give them hope for a bright future.
